Aquarans (Fishfolk)

Age Expectancy: 150–200 years. They possess a robust immune system and age at a significantly slower rate than humans.

Physical Appearance

The Aquaran physiology is a specialized blend of terrestrial humanoid form and advanced aquatic adaptation.

• Skin & Scales: Their bodies feature a tactical distribution of textures. The backs, shoulders, and outer limbs are protected by shimmering scales, while the face, belly, and front of the legs consist of smooth, soft skin for increased sensitivity and flexibility.
• Humanoid Structure: They possess humanoid arms and legs with webbed hands and feet to assist in propulsion.
• Facial Features: Their faces are humanoid but streamlined. They feature large, expressive eyes protected by translucent nictitating membranes for underwater clarity. Mouths are sleek with thin lips and several rows of small, pointed teeth designed for gripping.
• Tail & Fins: * The tail is slender and roughly the length of the torso. On land, the Aquarans utilize a Caudal Notch—a specialized muscular groove along the lower spine. The tail bone curves upward, and powerful muscles contract to fold the tail securely into a compact bundle against the back, resembling a rabbit’s tail to stay out of the way while walking.
  • Secondary fins along the limbs and head fold flush against the body when not in use.
• Hair: Aquarans lack hair entirely; instead, they possess distinctive, bony fin patterns on the scalp and neck that mimic the silhouette of hair.

Sexual Dimorphism

Aquarans exhibit unique biological differences where the females are the more prominent gender visually.

• Females: Display vibrant, warm-toned scales (oranges, reds, golds) and larger, more ornamental fins. These features are used for social signaling and territorial displays. Their bodies are highly streamlined and built for extreme agility.
• Males: Possess subdued, cool-toned scales (blues, teals, greens) designed for deep-water camouflage. Their fins are smaller and more utilitarian, and their frames are slightly more muscular to compensate for a lack of flashy defensive coloration.
